Ms Julie Jones -
Road traffic accident survivor

Julie Jones"As I began to cross the intersection on my bicycle, my life changed so fast that my brain was unable to keep up with the speed of events. I couldn't believe how quickly I had gone from what I had considered a capable, physically strong, determined woman to an incredibly vulnerable individual.

The days that followed my accident involved several long operations to stabilise my bones and repair my soft tissue injuries. The team of specialist nurses, physiotherapists and surgeons continued to help with my recovery, working with me to regain as much function from my legs as possible. The scars that cover my legs are still obvious, and to most people quite horrifying, but the amazing thing is that I have been able to return to almost all the activities I love so much.

I am continuing to learn what it is to have a disfigurement, and my friends and family have given important support in this tricky psychological feat. The Healing Foundation provides funding for invaluable research so vital to an individual's overall recovery. I intend to assist the Foundation in any way I can, and hope that my experience will encourage others to do the same."
